  4.                    In todays competitive society, every business large or small must compete
  5. internationally.  We are no longer a small world.  We are a global world.  Entrepeneurs
  6. who realize this will be much better off in the years to come.  Good translations are a
  7. part of becoming a member of our global world and competing in todays market.  The importance
  8. of having your advertising translated accurately cannot be overemphasized. First of all,
  9. the "Ugly American" image can be destroyed with accurate translations. Believe me,
  10. the image still exists and it can hidder the profitability of your business. Also language
  11. barriers can create problems for even superior products. An excellent example of this
  12. is "General Motors" the company that makes "Nova" cars loss a lot of money before
  13. they discovered that No Va in Spanish means "doesn;t go"! Imagine if General Motors had had
  14. Spanish translators to warn them about the name "Nova".
  15.                      So what is a good translation? There are several characteristics of a good translator:
  16.                     1. Good translators communicate very well in both their native language and
  17.                         the target language.

  19.                     2.  Good translators have access to various resouces so that the translation is             
  20.                          accurate.

  22.                     3.  Good translators not only have a working knowledge of the language, but
  23.                          also the culture:  If you insult people, they will not buy your product.

  25.                    Good translations are a very important element in todays Business world.  An
  26. accurate translation may determine the success or failure of a business.
